​​​​​Indiana Trauma Hospitals

Injury is the leading cause of death for Hoosiers between the ages of 1 and 34. More than 95,000 Hoosiers are hospitalized for injuries—and more than 5,000 die—each year. Because trauma care requires special training and equipment, only a limited number of hospitals are prepared to deliver life-saving care on a 24-hour basis. Currently, there are  21 American College of Surgeons-certified adult trauma hospitals in Indiana and 5 pediatric-verified trauma centers in Indiana. View more about Indiana's trauma centers here​.​​

Government Initiatives on Trauma Care

In 2008, Indiana established the Indiana State Trauma Care Committee. The committee advises the governor and the state health commissioner on implementing a more effective trauma care system across the state.

In September 2013, Indiana approved the trauma registry final rule.
